George C Rawlings (1921 – 2009) US.  Politician, Lawyer

American politician, a former member of the Democratic National Committee, and a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. Rawlings was married and had two sons, but in 1975 he and Rosalie divorced after he determined to live openly as a gay man.

Agnes Maltais (1956 – )  Canadian.  Politician

Quebec politician and Parti Québécois Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Taschereau. In 2003, Ms. Maltais became the first openly lesbian member of the National Assembly, when she came out to an audience at Laval University.

Dirk Shafer (1962 –  ) US.  Model / Actor / Screenwriter / Director / Fitness Trainer

American model, actor, screenwriter and director. He is most noted in the modeling world for being Playgirl magazine's "Man of the Year" for 1992. Shafer would go on to write, direct and star in "Man of the Year", a mockumentary about his time as a semi-closeted gay man in the role of a heterosexual sex symbol.

Otep Shamaya (1979 – ) US.  Singer / Songwriter / Actress / Poet / Author / Painter

American singer-songwriter, the lead vocalist of the metal band Otep. She is openly lesbian[1] and a vegetarian, and an advocate of animal rights.

Janet Flanner (1892 - 1978) US.  Author / Journalist

American writer and journalist who served as the Paris correspondent of The New Yorker magazine from 1925 until she retired in 1975. Although none of Flanner's journalism or fiction develops in any real depth overt lesbian content or themes, she was a prominent figure in the lesbian community of expatriate Paris.

Vito Russo (1946 - 1990 )  US.  Author, Historian, Activist

American LGBT activist, film historian and author who is best remembered as the author of the book The Celluloid Closet.

Tom of Finland [Touko Laaksonen] (1920 - 1991 ) Finnish.  Artist

Iconic artist Tom of Finland has created some of the most indelible (and erotic) images of twentieth-century gay life and has fueled the fantasies of generations of gay men.

Johnny Rahm (1965 - 2004 ) US.  Porn, Actor, Comedian

"Johnny Rahm",the stage name of Barry "J.T." Rogers, an American actor who appeared in gay porn movies and magazines, had a conservative upbringing in a Baptist home, and educated in Christian high school. He was expelled from the fundamentalist Bob Jones University when he came out as gay in his senior year. He had a brief career with bit parts in mainstream film before a decade of work in porn.
Suffering from both HIV and depression, he hanged himself in 2004.

1948 — A New York City radio show has a panel discussing a letter received from a man entrapped into soliciting him for sex. This is the first time the show dedicates an entire program to one issue.

1955 — The U.S. Supreme Court refuses to hear a challenge to the Oklahoma crime against nature law, brought by a man convicted of consensual relations with another man.

1966 — The Louisiana Supreme Court upholds the sodomy convictions of two women for engaging in cunnilingus.

1969 — The Oregon Court of Appeals upholds a sodomy conviction despite prejudicial remarks of the prosecutor.
